Modern Table Lamp

Originally designed 70 years ago, the original Anglepoise lamp has become an institution as far as modern table lamps are concerned. The original design hasn't changed much from that first 1930's iconic design, reinforcing just how successful the design has been for its use in both personal and professional workspaces. As a result of the enduring success of the design, it came as no surprise when we were asked to provide table lamps for the Sir Basil Spence Celebration exhibition. Sir Basil Spence was famous for his modernist architectural style, so it seemed fitting that one 20th century icon should play a key part in providing the lighting for the exhibition of another. In this particular exhibition we did not use our modern floor lamps to create the right ambience, but focused instead on our desk lamp range in order to concentrate the viewer's attention.

The opposite was true of the recent Lane Crawford Magazine article, which focused on our Giant 1227 range and shed some light onto how we have gone about re-imagining our modern floor lamps in recent times. Although consumers may recognise our modern table lamps, many do not realise we also produce wall mounted and modern floor lamps. This is why we decided to create one that people could not fail to see was a scaled-up version of the original Anglepoise table lamp design.

We are always keen to respect the original design of the table lamp design, as it forms the foundation of our catalogue. However, we are also happy to play with this design and create new products from it. We have recently announced the launch of our Fifty chandelier. This design is based on Anthony Dickens' Fifty range, and as a striking post modernist piece proves that Anglepoise is expanding the modern table lamp idea yet again.

This is how our Giant modern floor lamp range came about. Having trebled the original table lamp design in scale, we created a striking modern floor lamp that is instantly recognisable as the classic Anglepoise lamp, only much bigger.
