Unique Lamps

Anglepoise has been manufacturing unique lamps for more than seventy years, with the result that our products are now widely regarded as British design classics. But they’re classics with a twist. Top industrial designer Kenneth Grange and leading fashion designer Margaret Howell have helped us subtly fuse contemporary new ideas into the original classical design by George Carwardine from the 1930s.

If you’re looking for unique lamps, we think you’ll discover that your search will be over when you come to Anglepoise. We specialise in the production of a special kind of modern lamp – all our designs draw from the best of the past as well as the future. We’ve preserved the core concept which inspired George Carwardine’s revolutionary innovation in all of our unique lamps to this day: his lamp was based on the structure of the human arm, with three metal arms replacing the radius, ulna and humerus bones, three precisely opposed springs replicating the biceps and triceps muscles and the shade mimicking the rotation of the human hand. The result is exquisitely versatile movement and directionality, at the touch of a hand. And you’ll find this same core structure in every one of our unique lamps nearly eighty years later, even though we’ve added stylish new contours and features to the original prototype over the years.

Several of our unique floor lamps double as desk lamps or wall-mounted lamps. The original table base can be exchanged for a stylish chrome-plated desk clamp, or a discreet wall mounting, or a floor pole, converting our unique table lamps into chic floor standing lamps in an instant. So if you’re looking for unique floor lamps, desk lamps or wall-mounted lamps which combine superb functionality with classy, retro-chic lines, you won’t be disappointed with our fabulous range at Anglepoise.
