Sir Basil Spence, Celebration of a Modern Architect

The event organisers used the Anglepoise Type75 to help light the exhibition pieces on the table. You can certainly see from the images above how effective this has been.

BACK TO THE FUTURE: Sir Basil Spence (1907-1976), Celebration of a Modern Architect 19th October 2007 – 10th February 2008 Dean Gallery, National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh The exhibition, which has been jointly devised and curated by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) and the National Galleries of Scotland, draws largely on the Sir Basil Spence Archive held at RCAHMS. The exhibition considers Spence’s extraordinary career which spanned a time of great social change within Britain. Few architects can match the variety of work which he achieved which included a Cathedral, an airport, country houses, universities and an embassy. A wealth of fascinating original material is organised in a series of themes and case studies which explore these key achievements as well as Spence’s less well known works.
