Anglepoise is extremely proud to announce at Light+Building that 2012 is our 80th Anniversary. Light+Building, world’s largest trade fair for lighting and intelligent buildings, takes place in Frankfurt on 15‐20 April 2012.
The event has ‘energy efficiency’ as its key theme and interestingly, it was this subject that, back in 1932, led George Carwardine to design the original Anglepoise lamp.
Carwardine was, at that time, a vehicle suspension systems designer. While developing new concepts for vehicle suspensions, he created a mechanism which he recognised had applications in other fields. He particularly saw its benefits for an efficient task lamp. The joints and spring tension allowed the lamp to be moved into a wide range of positions, which it maintained without being clamped. Carwardine patented a lamp design and began manufacture in his company workshops. He soon found the interest and demand so great that he needed a major partner and so he entered into a licensing agreement with the Terry Spring Company in Redditch, England. Terry’s then manufactured and marketed the lamp under the name Anglepoise.
Continuing this tradition Anglepoise is especially proud to announce our new lighting range. Called Anglepoise Duo, the range covers table, wall, floor and pendant lamps.
Each lamp is inspired by the ingenious original George Carwardine designed Terry’s Anglepoise lamp. Some lamps in the range use the original mechanism; others are fixed with adjustable shades, but all continue the 80 Year tradition of placing the light source right where it is required, a heritage we are proud to celebrate at Light+Building.
