First published in 1896, Architects’ Journal - better known as AJ to its many dedicated readers - is something of an institution in the British architectural scene. So we were more than a little bit chuffed, when AJ Editor, Christine Murray approached us about supplying some of our Original1227™ desk lamps for their smart new East London HQ. The iconic, highly functional design of the lamp with its engaging, anthropomorphic aesthetic and strong British heritage seems like a perfect fit for a magazine that celebrates the best of British architecture - whilst the classic Signal Red colour the Original comes in is a near perfect match to AJ’s brand logo. When AJ’s publisher, Emap, commissioned Clive Sall Architects to fit out their new 22,500 square foot offices in Shoreditch, housing the Architectural Review Drapers and Retail Week as well as Architects’ Journal, they were keen to ensure that each office should represent their different brand identities. The striking red Original1227 desk lamps are the AJ editorial team’s personal contribution to the fit-out, completed earlier this year.
