Space at The University of Portsmouth

13th January – 7th March 2014

To celebrate the opening of the University of Portsmouth’s stunning new gallery/exhibition/screening space – aptly called Space – Anglepoise® has collaborated with the University students to recreate an installation that was originally designed for the Kenneth Grange exhibition at The Design Museum in 2011. Over the coming months the stunning display – an organic, sculptural wave of lamps and light constructed from 78 Anglepoise® Type1228™ Floor Lamps - will be reworked by the students to express dynamic new forms.

Changing Faces complements and connects to The Creating Balance Project Showcase in Portsmouth, which features the outcome of a year-long collaboration between University of Portsmouth students, alumni and staff, local community group, Strong Island and Anglepoise® to explore the concept of balance and the interplay between artists and photographers and the commercial object.

Changing Faces serves as an inspired taster for a new University of Portsmouth project with Anglepoise®. This year the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries will be working with Anglepoise® to reveal the design process, the manufacturing heritage, the personality of the company, internationalism and the importance of learning through experiential design.  This will culminate in a major exhibition in 2015.

Changing Faces is open to the public from 9am – 5pm, Mon - Fri, at Space, Eldon Building West, University of Portsmouth, Winston Churchill Avenue, Portsmouth PO1 2DJ.  Admission is free.
