What a week that was – Anglepoise blog | Blog

So, our lovely new stand is all packed up and designjunction 2014 is done and dusted until next year. Yet this annual showcase of cutting edge design never fails to deliver.

Says Anglepoise® Commercial Director, Ashley Gilbert:

“The visitors were high profile and diverse, representing all sectors from within the UK but also including buyers, media representatives and creatives from as far afield as Asia and the USA. As a result you’ll soon see Anglepoise® represented in more high quality retailers worldwide and we have some interesting new projects to progress.

Of course, we’ve exhibited at designjunction before, though perhaps with less newness and without our recently raised brand awareness – all thanks to a recent collaboration with Paul Smith, resulting in the special edition Anglepoise® + Paul Smith lamp given pride of place on the stand. This, along with the new 5-piece Brass Original1227 collection and Sir Kenneth Grange’s new Type75 Maxi range were highly admired by specifiers, consumers and the media alike.

Also admired was our new look stand. Working with art director, Despina Curtis, we came to realise that less is definitely more and well-considered, surface treatments combined with carefully curated commercial displays give us a much stronger and clearer identity. Will we be at designjunction next year? Most likely but there’s lots to happen between then and now …”

Of course designjunction was not only about the stands. Amongst all the great designs to see and to buy were four pop-up eateries. Because it was perfectly located right by our stand and showcased beautifully our new Type75™ Maxi Pendant lamps, our number one favourite was the Transport for London restaurant designed by Michael Sodeau … of course, the delicious cocktails on offer there, made by Tfl partner, The East London Liquor Company’s Gin, played absolutely no part in swaying our opinion!

There was also the designjunction charity initiative, ‘A Child’s Dream’. In the run up to the event, 20 designers put their talent to the test, customising a series of our Type75™ Mini Desk Lamps and ercol Original stacking chairs to raise funds for Teddy’s Wish. The results were presented at designjunction in a remarkable installation, designed and curated by British designer, Anthony Dickens. All the pieces are available buy online until 12 noon this Sunday in an auction hosted on the designjunction website. The clock is ticking so be sure to place your bids quickly!

Special thanks to our friends at Benchmark, Vitra and Carl Hansen for allowing us to incorporate their wonderfully stylish furniture into our stand design: to Benchmark for providing us with the T621 Bench and Mason Table and C275 Chairs by Jen Risom, to Vitra for their Compas Direction Desk and to Carl Hansen for their CH24 Wishbone Chair.
