Says Simon Terry, Brand Director of Anglepoise®:
“We were delighted to attend an event last week arranged by our good friends at the Aspex contemporary art gallery to celebrate the completion of the first stage of development of its stunning historic building at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth – all part of a drive to improve its facilities for audiences and artists while also reducing its environmental impact and improving sustainability.”
Largely funded by a sizeable award in the gallery’s 35th anniversary year from Arts Council England’s National Lottery-funded capital programme, this improvement to facilities will enable Aspex to continue delivering high quality arts education, workshops and events to a wider audience.
New features include an artists studio, accessible to all of our visitors, who will be invited to engage directly with artists while they work, a larger space for Aspex’s award-winning programme of participation workshop and events, and a mobile participation studio which will help Aspex extend its reach to local communities in and around Portsmouth.
Anglepoise® was pleased to donate to Aspex an Original 1227™ Giant floor lamp which stands proud in the entrance space, calling to mind the Creating Balance Project Showcase at Aspex, a collaboration between Anglepoise®, the University of Portsmouth and local community group, Strong Island, aimed at putting the spotlight on the wealth of creative talent in the city.
Says Joanne Bushnell, Director of Aspex, "The Original 1227™ Giant looks amazing within our entrance space, as a key feature which visitors will immediately see. It is brilliant to be associated with such a locally respected and renowned brand."
