PROJECT: Ibsens Hotel, Copenhagen
INTERIOR: Morten Hedegaard (Proprieter)
Ibsens urban boutique hotel is located right at the heart of the “Nansensgade” area, a village-like enclave hidden behind one of Copenhagen’s busiest pedestrian street, considered by the locals to epitomise “Nordic Cool”.
Taking its cue from the hip community of artists, craftmakers and designers that have made Nansensgade their home, many of who have contributed to the design, the interior décor is quirky, individual, ‘homey’ and relaxed. From the Krestine Kjærholm textiles in the main lobby, to Jess the Antiquarian’s books in the library corner and the vintage record player from Würtz Radio, everything inside the hotel has been carefully selected to perfectly reflect the unique community outside. Indeed, celebrating the creative community is so much a part of the hotel DNA that in 2011 Ibsens became the first hotel in the world to accept ‘artmoney’ in part payment (www.artmoney.org).
A series of Anglepoise® Giant 1227™ pendants dominate the spacious lobby where guests congregate at robust “Mingle tables” created by local cabinet maker Jul. Møller & Søn and Type 75™ Desk and Floor lamps provide ambient lighting and a hint of retro style in some of the individually furnished bedrooms.
