PROJECT: Google Campus, London
ARCHITECT: Jump Studios (Shaun Fernandes, Markus Nonn)
London based architecture and design practice, Jump Studios were commissioned by Google UK to create a stimulating seven storey co-working and event space right in the heart of London’s Tech City, better known as Silicon Roundabout. The aim was to fuel the success of London’s burgeoning tech start up community.
The challenge was to transform an unprepossessing office building into a flexible and dynamic environment housing open social spaces, including a theatre and café, and more intimate working hubs that would be ideally suited to a shifting workforce and diverse programme of events. The look and feel of the building had to reflect the informal, non-corporate nature of its future occupants, so a raw, utilitarian, ‘garage’ aesthetic was achieved by stripping back the building to its core.
Simple, bold furnishings were chosen to reflect and enhance the industrial aesthetic, including a reception desk made from multi coloured Lego bricks, a large inspiration wall made from reclaimed vegetable crates, a bright red roller shutter to create a 140 seat presentation room and a series of striking Jet Black Anglepoise® Giant1227™ Pendant Light.
