Slovak National Gallery

Today we chat with Architect Mária Michalič Kusá from BKPŠ, the studio behind the restoration of the modern extension of the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava. Anglepoise Type 75 Floor lamp and Desk lamps have been installed in the space, specified in a special red color finish with a Bright Green collar.

Built in 1972 in functionalist style, the gallery progressist design raised major controversy at the time. After 20+ years of closure, it welcomes the public again, meaning to stimulate intellectual exchanges through events and exhibitions.

How did you select Anglepoise for the Gallery furnishing, and why this special custom finish ?

“There were more than one inspiring moment for me – The Red, is from the Slovak Architect Vladimír Dedeček (1929-2020) who used the colour in 1977 for the facade of gallery. First it was hated by public but now it has become an icon. The bright green is the new “corporate“ colour of the National gallery information design. The Idea to mix these two colours together was inspired by Paul Smith designs for Anglepoise. The whole interior for the gallery is in neutral shades with some bright moments – this lamp is one of them.”
