Meet the Navigators
Meet the Navigators. People finding their own way through design, creativity and making. Discover how they navigate the creative process, from the ideas and influences that shape their work to the tools, routines and ways of thinking that help them bring it to life.
Home of The Good Chair
Katy Bennett
Katy Bennett is the founder of Home of The Good Chair, where she gives pre-loved furniture a new lease of life through the traditional craft of Danish cord weaving. With a love of Danish design and making by hand, Katy uses time-honoured weaving techniques to restore vintage chairs, combining craftsmanship, sustainability and a respect for the stories held within well-made objects.
Otter Surfboards
James Otter
James Otter is the founder of Otter Surfboards, handcrafting wooden surfboards, paddleboards and bellyboards from locally grown timber in Cornwall. His approach is rooted in a deep connection between making, materials and the natural world, with the hands playing an important part in how he navigates his creative process. Through his workshops, James also invites others into that process, encouraging people to slow down, learn through making and build a more personal connection with the objects they create.
The Anglepoise Navigators are creators, designers and makers finding their own way through their craft. From furniture restoration and traditional techniques to woodworking, design and contemporary making, each Navigator brings a different perspective on the creative process and what it means to make something with purpose.
Meet the Navigators to discover more about the people we work with, the skills behind their work and the ideas that keep them moving forward. We explore the tools, materials, routines and ways of thinking that shape their practice, as well as the places where their work happens. It’s an opportunity to look beyond the finished object and understand more about the process of bringing an idea to life.
And the community continues to grow. If you’re a creator, designer or maker with your own approach to what you do, we’d like to hear from you. Find out how to become an Anglepoise Navigator and explore opportunities to collaborate with us across content, products, events and other creative projects.
