Supporting New Designers and new talent

Anglepoise is again supporting New Designers and the ND Awards, the leading London graduate design awards, in 2021. Running from 30th June – 10th July, the ND awards is all about celebrating and championing emerging talent and, vitally, it is about connecting industry with young talent and exchanging ideas and creativity.

Here is our brief for this year:

Deep work is hard in our distracted world and it’s even harder after the last year. Making time to focus and switch on your imagination, switch off distractions and improve productivity is a challenge. So too is doing all of this whilst also looking after your wellbeing and mental health.

The Anglepoise lamp is loved for many reasons; its form, its function and its ‘everyman’ appeal: there really is an Anglepoise for everyone. It has the ability to illuminate and demarcate – something we have all needed help with in the last 12 months as work, study and leisure have bled into one.

We already make some of the best task lights that there are for the doers, the makers and the creators. But what lies ahead? Given a blank sheet of paper, where would you take the humble task light? We would like you to design a task light that creates an environment for deep, productive work and supports wellbeing.

You can be as creative as you like but it must be commercially viable and well-engineered

The Details

The Prize

£500 worth of Anglepoise products and 4 mentoring sessions

Award criteria

Please consider the commercial viability of your design. Think about the customer when creating your response to the brief and pay close attention to the creative pointers we have given in this pack…if  you answer just one question, think, as Sir John Hegarty says: “will the planet thank you?”

Application

We don’t want to make your life unduly hard – we know you have a lot on your plate – but here are a few pointers:

  • If you are using Powerpoint, limit this to 10 slides max.
  • It’s a design project and you are a designer – we want to see slick visuals That doesn’t have to mean high tech though – we love a pencil drawing! Additionally, renders, videos and even animations are encouraged and welcome.

The closingfor entries is 28th May. For more information, please go to: https://www.newdesigners.com/
